I am glad that replacing the Cartridge removed the noise. There are engineering fixes for some of these, but most are not customer applications - such as conductive grease on the internal rolling contacts. The other answers to your question may help solve this, although it is difficult to tell if it is the many rollers in the print cartridge or one of the media transport rollers in the machine. On the other hand, there are, as you noted, print rollers that sometimes squeak during the printing.

There was also a series of loud pops at the very start of each cartridge as the toner was allowed to flow into the main cartridge area from a storage pod in one half. If you take out a print cartridge, you can squeeze it and see the two sides separate and return - this is what the engine is doing. One side effect of this is that for mono printing, there is a loud click and for color there is a series of 3 then 1 (or 1 then 3 - I don't remember) clicks as the engine puts the two halves of the cartridge together (Called alienation). this is done by keeping the two halves of the print cartridge separated until the printing is actually occurring.
If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.Does the noise you hear occur only at the start of a print job from when the engine is sitting in a ready mode? This series of printers uses a special gearing that saves you, the customer, a lot of mechanical wear.
